For some reason London red liveried buses at Tunbridge Wells garage now get used on all Double Deck duties, including this trip on the 6 between Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells. Incidentally I don't recall these vehicles ever being intended for the 402 either, so I'm not sure where they came from or why they are there.. (see below for the usual 402 fayre)

What a brilliant idea it was - knock together a load of shorter routes to form a 4 hour continuous circular tour of the whole of East Kent! And even better, the SLFs gave way to some DDs !! It was the 100 & 200 Kent Compass - but the party is now over  as the routes have been split up again! SHAME!

Arriva Kent Thameside suddenly withdrew what seemed to be a popular Bluewater service, the 429 from Bromley, and replaced it with a purely commercial X29 on a reduced frequency... No longer being part of the travelcard scheme was surely not going to help it's prospects... and they did not, it was withdrawn altogether shortly afterwards.

London Titan DDs are fast dwindling, however Stagecoach have put them to good 2nd hand use in various other places. Here's an East Kent example, possibly showing the limitations of dot matrix displays, as it leaves Canterbury on the 6 bound for B'field, H.Bay, G'hill & W'stable!

Although operated from Tunbridge Wells depot, and not in any way, shape or form penetrating the central area, route 402's dedicated vehicles carry the Arriva London style of red and cream rather than the corporate turquoise and cream as exhibited by the single decker next to it. These buses ran for a number of years on the 402, but have since been replaced by a batch of SLFs, though DDs do still put in occasional appearances.

Stagecoach East Kent covers almost exactly the same area as it's national bus company predecessor, East Kent Road Car Company.

Arriva Kent and Sussex is basically what used to be the old Maidstone and District in National Bus Company days, without the bit that was renamed Hastings & District and has now become part of the Stagecoach South Coast empire. Kent Thameside is what remains of Kentish Bus, which was in turn the South East 1/4 of London Country. As with Arriva Surrey and West Sussex (the Southern and South Western parts of London Country) Kent Thameside has closed garages galore and contracted its route base and operating area, a problem which has not affected Kent and Sussex to nearly the same degree...
In the Chatham and Gillingham areas buses carry 'serving the Medway towns'. Arriva Travel shops in this area are located at Clive Road Gravesend and Chatham Pentagon Bus Station. The Travel shop at Nelson Road Bus Station/Garage in Gillingham has now closed.
