Some London Facts: 1/3 of all bus journeys in England are made in London. London Bus Services are provided by the biggest fleet of Low Floor Double and Single deckers in Europe, with the aim of being all low-floor and wheelchair accessible (apart from the Crew operated Routemasters) by 2004. The Countdown real time information service provided on some routes and at some stops is the largest such vehicle location system in the world. It is being expanded with the aim to cover 15% of all bus stops, from which 75% of all journeys commence.

** HEALTH WARNING ** Because routes and services change time and time again, the information on this site may well be out of date, you have been warned... check the TFL and/or londonbusroutes sites (links above) for (hopefully) the latest information!

After the powers that be finally decided which bit was going to be which number, the 10 was split into overlapping sections from 1st Feb 2003, and guess what, it's another part OPO conversion as oddly the busier section retains the number 10 with OPO DLFs of First, while the quieter section to Archway gains an oddly high number for Routemasters to bear, 390. Like a previous service between the same points, the 135, it is surely only a matter of time before this section also succumbs to OPO.

A totally new service opening up a number of new links across South West London started 23rd Nov 2002. It runs between Tooting and Richmond, also providing a service to new streets in the area alongside the home of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships in Wimbledon Park Road. Mitcham Belle are in charge with recent SLFs they have moved off of the 152.

Contract changes in the Kingston area have seen Armchair lose the 65 to London United's new DLFs, who in turn lost the 85 to London General. The 85 was previously won by Arriva and operated from Leatherhead, but was given away to London United during one of their many contractions of operations in Surrey.

To the East Stagecoach stole the 369 back from First, while First took the 364 and 499 from Stagecoach! The 193 has also been upgraded from yukky Mercedes vans to these Optare low floors a la Wilts and Dorset.

Since January 9th 2000 only 2 adult daytime bus fares exist in London - £1.00 for journeys including Zone 1, and 70p if it doesn't.

The annual fare increase from Jan 6th 2002 does not affect these cash fares, but there were upward adjustments for various passes..  New rates are shown below, with any comparison's to last year's fares (7th Jan 2001 - 5th Jan 2002).

Also, from 19th November 2000, all types of one day passes are now valid for use on LT N-Prefixed Night buses for journeys which commence anytime before 4.30am on the morning following expiry.

Other fares are:
Children 40p (only until 10pm and after 4.30am)
Underground fare for within one Zone only, currently £1.60 (Child 60p) for Zone 1, £1 (Child 40p) for any 1 of Zones 2 to 6, then from £1.30 to £3.60 (Child 60p to £1.50) for between 2 and all 6 zones.

The 'Greater London' area for TRAINS is bounded by the following stations, clockwise: Slade Green, Crayford, St Mary Cray, Knockholt, Riddlesdown, Kenley, Coulsdon South, Woodmansterne, Belmont, Cheam, Stoneleigh, Surbiton (on Guildford/Woking lines), Hampton Court, Hampton, Feltham, West Drayton, West Ruislip, Moor Park, Hatch End, Elstree & Borehamwood, Hadley Wood, Crews Hill, Turkey Street, Enfield Lock, Harold Wood, Upminster and Rainham.

The Greater London area for BUSES is broadly the same, except that the Stoneleigh area is not included, nor is Moor Park, Borehamwood, or any of Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell, Loughton, Debden or Epping.

Within the 'Greater London Area' Zones are arranged from Zones 1 to 6 on rail services, Zone 1 is Central London, and then concentric rings around this one from 2 to 6. On the buses there are only 4 zones, 1 to 4 - 1 to 3 are the same as rail zones 1 to 3, Bus Zone 4 is equivalent to rail zones 4, 5 and 6 added together.

All zone one day travelcard: Cannot be bought on the bus. Buy on the day from Underground or Railway stations within Greater London. Can also be bought at Network South East Railway stations as an 'add-on' to a return to London, generally at about £2.30 above the cost of the usual return fare to Zone 1.
